Abstract: The extension of majorization (the rearrangement ordering) to more general groups $G$ than the symmetric group is called $G$-majorization. Significant work has already been done when $G$ is a finite reflection group. In this talk I will describe some new work with Henry Wynn on majorization with respect to normal subgroups, quotient groups, and group extensions. This work was completed while visiting Prof Wynn at the London School of Economics in December 2012.

Biography: Andrew Francis is a Professor and ARC Future Fellow in the Centre for Research in Mathematics in the School of Computing and Mathematics at UWS. His research interests lie in algebra (finite reflection groups and Hecke algebras), in mathematical biology (evolutionary questions related to bacterial genetics), and in applications of algebra to biology.
