Abstract: As yet there is not an internationally coordinated and planned approach to the adoption of Information Technology in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Adoption of some of the techniques developed for electronic support of Western Medicine, such as standardized terminologies, data structuring methods, systems design and decision support could be beneficial. We will present some background on the process of TCM diagnosis and treatment, and show how this can be mapped to a patient consultation and treatment records system. A case study of a prototype system being developed at UWS will be presented.
