Abstract: In this talk I will describe some of the challenges in research design in the area of wireless networking. Specifically, I will talk about difficulties and risks associated with techniques and tools such as mathematical analysis, simulation, emulation, lab experiments and empirical surveys. In general, the pitfalls associated with research in wireless networking can be categorised in process related pitfalls and model related pitfalls. In this talk I will cover most common examples in both categories that were identified in my own research as well as some of pitfalls described in the literature.
