Abstract:

In this talk we will answer the following three questions by giving simple definitions of the involved mathematical objects, visualizing the more advanced ideas and telling all the juicy details of the computational implementation.

  1. Why enumerating and classifying semigroups? Why should you care?

  2. What exactly to enumerate? Abstract semigroups vs. concrete representations (transformation and more general diagram semigroups).

  3. How to do it? The epic tale of fighting for all transformation semigroups on 4 points.
